SHELTERING

On March 16th I left New York City with my wife and four year old daughter headed for my birthplace and childhood home which was now a vacated Airbnb property. While going through an amicable marriage separation, the meaning of family was on my mind. After a month of quarantine I asked some friends to sit for formal portraits incorporating their masks as a historical document. Then I began making photographs of acquaintances near their homes, on their property, or at a place of personal importance. With space to move and a familiar landscape to curate I made these pictures to explore my life, the bonds between subjects, and our collective existence during the pandemic.
